Designer: Mart Stam (1899-1986)
The Dutch designer Mart Stam studied drawing in Amsterdam from 1917 to 1919 and worked as a draughtsman until he moved to Berlin. There he became one of the leading figures in the avant-garde movement.
In 1926 Mart Stam showed some other architects the first drawings of his prototype chair, a cantilever chair that inspired Mies van der Rohe for his own designs.
In 1931 Stam became one of the founding members of the Congres Internationaux d' Architecture. Mart Stams cantilever chair revolutionized structural form of Seating and is was one of the great achievements in 20th century design.
